Position: President & Chief Executive Officer
A search is underway for the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Utilities Technology Council (UTC), a leading trade association representing the information communications technology interests of electric, gas, and water utilities, energy companies, and other critical infrastructure companies.
Candidates should have five years or more of senior executive experience in a large corporation, nonprofit organization, or national association, and expertise in utility and telecommunications policy and technology issues. Nonprofit and international experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership qualities and organizational skills, as well as public policy and public relations experience are preferred. The ideal candidate possesses strong team building skills, verbal and written communications qualifications, excellent interpersonal skills, and the aptitude to attract and retain highly qualified personnel.
The CEO is responsible for building revenues, increasing membership, overseeing day-to-day operations, conferences, and other events, and leading advocacy efforts on matters at the Federal Communications Commission, Congress and the federal courts, as well as state public utility commissions and legislatures. The CEO ensures member engagement and leadership opportunities through committees and regional activities, guarantees transparent processes and procedures to meet annual budget, and deploys appropriate resources to achieve strategic goals. The ideal candidate demonstrates a detailed understanding of and appreciation for the utility industry’s regulatory and technology issues with a proven track record of managing a business, organization, or association of comparable size, scope, and staffing as UTC. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree, preferably in science or business, or Juris Doctor degree from an accredited college or university, preferred. Admission to a state bar, Professional Engineer license, and/or CPA credentials, a plus.
